Leaders Are Readers

An Invitation-only Event for Ohio’s Leaders to Show Support for people Living with Disabilities That Prevent Reading

About

Leaders are Readers gives civic and community leaders the opportunity to participate in providing access to print for thousands of people who are blind, visually impaired, and others who live with a disability which prevents the use of print.  Congressional leaders, State legislators, Mayors, City Councilmembers, County Commissioners, CEOs, Non-Profit Executives, and others all have enjoyed being part of our service.  All it takes is 15-20 minutes.

A typical Leaders Are Readers event has leaders in Voicecorps studios accompanying our volunteers between the hours of 7AM and Noon. Leaders schedule in advance and are expected to arrive at least 5 minutes prior to their scheduled reading time.  Leaders are provided with a short orientation then are escorted to our studios. There, they read for about 10-15 minutes from that day’s news articles (usually from the Wall Street Journal or Columbus Dispatch) alongside our expertly trained volunteers.

Our volunteers are all fully vaccinated and have booster shots, however, if the need for continued social distancing and mask-wearing applies in March, we can accommodate remote participation at your request. Please read “What you need” below.

In the 48-county coverage area there is a potential audience of more than 82,000 men and women who are living with blindness, vision loss, or another disability which prevents them from using print.  They will appreciate hearing their civic and community leaders support the service which provides their only access to daily newspapers and other current print.
