Letter from the Director’s Desk
By Mark Jividen, Executive Director
2026 is coming up fast. Where did 2025 go?

VOICEcorps observed a significant milestone a couple of weeks back – 50 years on the air! As I consider the echoes of these past 50 years providing volunteer-read print news to the community(and having been around for a good many of them, myself), I’m pleased to report that VOICEcorps remains strong.

In addition to our 50th anniversary, this has been a year of high achievements. Among them was completing the update and modernization of our entire technical plant. Largely financed by State of Ohio grants, the all-digital control consoles, broadcast chain, state-of-the-art recording gear and new studio furnishings replaced equipment original to our 1997 move to our present location. Only the badly needed backup power generator remains unfinished, which the electrical contractor promises to have online in January. (Fingers crossed for a mild December.)

On a somber and reflective note, VOICEcorps received a couple of generous gifts from the estates of VOICEcorps supporters who passed away. To be included in planned giving is quite humbling. I, respectfully, ask each of you to consider VOICEcorps in your advanced planning and speaking with your family about your wishes. The Development team is available to discuss how to navigate these delicate discussions.

During the International Association of Audio Information Services, IAAIS, conference this year, VOICEcorps was awarded the 2025 Program of the Year: Newspaper for The Business News Hour hosted by husband and wife Michael and Marlys Bradshaw every weekday morning from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. This is a tremendous honor and well-deserved for our long-time volunteers.

I want to sincerely thank our Board, our small band of employees and our wonderful cast of over 180 volunteers who help VOICEcorps rank among the very best reading services anywhere. It is because of you, we can.

With gratitude,

~mej
