Volunteer

Become a part of our friendly, welcoming family

At Voicecorps, volunteers are the foundation of what we do. From reading aloud in a studio to planning and working our special events, or perhaps clerical work or electronics repair, volunteers do it all!  It’s easy to get started.  All who wish to become readers will have an audition so we’re sure to get the best voices on the air for our listeners. A few hours a week or a few hours a month? You decide! You’ll be matched up with a volunteer job that fits your schedule and your interests.

Ways to volunteer with Voicecorps

Become a reader

Reading print aloud is not as simple or easy as you might think. Can you pronounce the names you come across in a daily newspaper?  Most newsprint or magazine articles are not written as a script to be read aloud.  It never hurts to try reading a newspaper story aloud to test yourself at home…  If you think you have what it takes, download, print and mail our Volunteer Application, or send us an email to voicecorps@voicecorps.org.

Participate in listener outreach

There are, by conservative estimates, more than 120,000 people in our coverage area who are eligible to be using Voicecorps as their access to print.  We only know a fraction of them.  You can help us to share the good news that Voicecorps exists, is free to use for eligible people, and is easy to access.  Join our volunteer corps of Ambassadors – a special team of public speakers, information fair workers, and managers of display materials in medical offices.

Help with radio repairs

If you know what this picture is and better still, how to use one, we want to have your help to maintain a working supply of special radios which are loaned to eligible people. These radios are a lifeline for someone who cannot use the web to stream our audio or who cannot use on-screen TV menus to access our audio on digital TV channels.

This volunteer work can be quite flexible and if you have your own tools, you may be able to work from home!

Be part of the annual golf outing committee

Each September we host the David Liebchen Memorial Golf Outing at a central Ohio club.  Players and non-players alike participate by being in the golf outing or bidding in our auction.  We need workers well in advance to recruit players, acquire auction items, sell hole sponsorships, and distribute flyers to golf clubs throughout the Columbus metropolitan area.  The bonus comes on event day, when you get to be outdoors on a warm September day and watch other people make excuses about their score!

The outing is named to honor one of our volunteers, David Liebchen, who volunteered on our Board of Directors and who loved playing golf.  The event team is comprised of volunteers and staff and works all year long to create a most memorable and enjoyable golf event for scratch golfers and duffers alike.
